During archaeological excavations in the area of Gashalti Garagoyunlu village of the city that started since 2020, it was found out that Naftalan was one of the ancient settlements. . Naftalan is now an attractive place not only for its natural resources, but also for its archeological monuments. During the research, it was found out by archaeologists that the upper layer of the multi-layered settlement of Galaboynu belongs to the Middle Ages, and the lower layer to the Bronze Age.
